Paris Agreement

Riding on the momentum of the SDGs, the Paris Climate Agreement came into force on 4 November 2016, with the following core objectives:

  • To limit the mean global temperature rise to ‘well below’ 2°C above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the global temperature rise even further to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels;
  • To increase the ability of countries to deal with the impacts of climate change and to foster climate resilience and low greenhouse gas emissions development, in a manner that does not threaten food production; and
  • To make financial flows consistent with low greenhouse gas emissions and climate-resilient development.
