Since 2024, student delegates have been selected to represent CUHK at COP, which is organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Successful candidates will attend COP for at least four days with guidance from conference mentors, who are CUHK academics. They will have the unique opportunity to observe climate negotiations and engage with global sustainability leaders, expanding their horizons and networks.

On 27 June 2025, the SDSN Hong Kong co-organized the ‘Distinguished Lecture on Sustainable Development 2025’ titled ‘Cities as Transformative Agents for Global Sustainability’ by Professor Xuemei Bai, who is the Distinguished Professor, Urban Environment and Human Ecology at the Fenner School of Environment and Society, The Australian National University. This event marked the first collaboration between SDSN Hong Kong and the Australian Consulate-General Hong Kong, fostering cross-regional dialogue on sustainability. The lecture explored the nexus between cities and climate change, attracting over 100 audiences including academics, policymakers and industry professionals. Drawing on over two decades of interdisciplinary research, Professor Bai stressed the evolving role of cities in addressing global environmental challenges, and proposed a reconceptualization of cities as dynamic systems capable of driving transformative change.

The Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change (MoCC) was established in December 2013 at CUHK. It was the first museum of its kind in the world, offering an interactive, multimedia exhibition that showcases valuable collections and information about climate change. It is the ideal venue for the public, especially students and teachers, to champion the cause of environmental stewardship and keep themselves abreast of the latest developments in environmental conservation and sustainability. The museum’s activities include an eco-tour of the prime ecological sites and green facilities on the CUHK campus, and it also offers a variety of workshops and activities that promote green living. The museum offers free admission to the public and trains young green leaders to become advocates of climate action in Hong Kong.

Examples of the museum’s recent educational activities include Environment and Conservation Fund ‘The Easy Climate-Friendly Diet’, Leave No Trace Educational Exhibition — Mountains Whisper and more. Furthermore, as one of the museum’s flagship programmes, the MoCC Ambassadorship, which received a merit award in the SDG Achievement Awards Hong Kong 2021, recognizes and provides financial support for outstanding CUHK students who would like to become active ambassadors to call for climate action and promote sustainability on and off the CUHK campus.
