
Professor Lu Yi-chun of the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at CUHK has been awarded the 20th Chinese Young Women in Science Fellowship. This accolade recognises her exceptional contributions to electrochemistry, energy engineering and sustainable battery technology, with key innovations including the development of molecular crowding electrolytes for high-voltage aqueous batteries and the pioneering of the world’s first low-cost, high-power, polysulphide-based flow battery.
Professor Lu is one of 19 recipients nationwide and the sole awardee from Hong Kong in 2026. This honour not only celebrates her achievements but also motivates the Hong Kong community to pursue excellence and drive positive societal impact through innovation and scientific research.

The Centre for Innovation and Technology (CINTEC) at the Faculty of Engineering, CUHK hosted the sixth Green Innovation Competition, whose final and award ceremony were held in June 2025. The competition, on the theme ‘Clean Energy Society’, attracted 76 teams from local primary and secondary schools. It encouraged students to apply their STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics) knowledge to develop innovative solutions that addressed environmental challenges. The event aimed to cultivate students’ technological creativity and environmental awareness, and to nurture green-minded tech talent to drive sustainable development in Hong Kong.

Organized by the CarbonCare InnoLab (CCIL), the SolarCare Programme aims to promote the use of solar energy in Hong Kong as well as to develop a community service platform for renewable energy. The programme is an active response to the Hong Kong Government’s Feed-in Tariff (FiT) policy. Its mission is to accelerate the application of solar energy within the local community to increase the use of solar energy and reduce carbon emissions in Hong Kong. It will also serve to connect green groups, NGOs, government departments, power companies, renewable energy experts and the wider public. The programme aims to elevate Hong Kong’s solar energy development to global standards and advance the vision of a zero-carbon Hong Kong.
