Goals and Objectives

The Symposium on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) aims to provide a platform for local and international educators, researchers, and other stakeholders to converge and discuss best practices to advance ESD in higher education institutes. It will explore strategies for engaging and empowering youth via formal teaching and experiential learning opportunities, examine the challenges and opportunities in teaching sustainability concepts, and foster synergistic collaboration among educators across a broad spectrum of disciplines.

Keynote Speakers

Professor Mee Kam Ng, Vice-chair of the Department of Geography and Resource Management and the Founding Director of Urban Studies Programme at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Professor Patrick Paul Walsh, Vice President of Education and Director of the SDG Academy and Professor of International Development Studies at University College Dublin will give the keynote speeches.

Panel Speakers and themes

More than 15 scholars working in ESD from 11 different institutions in Beijing, Ireland, Shenzhen, Taiwan and locally will share their insights through panel discussion and moderation. The event will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and opportunities for networking with educators, researchers, and stakeholders surrounding the three main themes: (i) Incorporating ESD into Curricula of General Education and Beyond, (ii) ESD in Classroom, Experiential Learning and Service Learning, and (iii) ESD Challenges, Opportunities and New Approaches.
