The Nordic Sustainable Development Report 2025 has been released and is now available online!
Building on the European Sustainable Development Report, the Nordic Sustainable Development Report 2025 is the first assessment investigating how Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden are advancing the SDGs locally and globally.
Authored by an interdisciplinary team of leading Nordic researchers and experts, and coordinated through SDSN Northern Europe, the report builds on the global analytical framework of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).
The report’s key insights include:
- how SDG Index scores have evolved from 2000 to 2025 in the Nordic countries compared to the EU
- areas where progress is stagnating in the SDG dashboards and trend assessments
- SDG indicators that still score orange (indicating significant challenges remain) or red (indicating major challenges remain) across the Nordic region
- the growing gap between strong domestic SDG performance and weak results on international spillover impacts
- how the SDG index compares with the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Vision 2030
Together, these figures highlight the Nordic paradox: world-leading social and economic outcomes paired with persistent environmental challenges and significant negative impacts beyond national borders.
