The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has released ‘The Europe Sustainable Development Report 2026’. It assesses SDG progress across 41 countries and highlights key successes, growing risks, and science-based pathways to get back on track.

Report Highlights:

  • Continued SDG performance leadership by Nordic countries
  • Stalled SDG progress across Europe
  • Best performance on eliminating poverty (SDG 1), good health and well-being (SDG 3), and clean water and sanitation (SDG 6)
  • Major challenges in climate action (SDG 13), biodiversity (SDG 14 & SDG 15), sustainable consumption and production (SDG 12), and sustainable agriculture (SDG 2)
  • Weaken political emphasis on the SDGs, notably within the European Commission since 2025
  • Proposed science-based pathways, including clearer financing, fair agricultural emissions guidelines, social and governance dimensions
