The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) has published the IFLA Guidelines for Green Libraries! These guidelines provide a comprehensive framework for developing, managing and evaluating green libraries across diverse contexts, offering a practical roadmap for creating libraries that are environmentally responsible and socially conscious.
Grounded in principles of environmental responsibility, social equity and economic viability, it outlines practical strategies for integrating sustainability into all aspects of library work—from governance and staff training to collections and building management.
By emphasizing community engagement, resource efficiency and the responsible use of technology, the guidelines empower libraries to serve as educators and exemplars for the SDGs, aligning local actions with global impact.
